Is it safe?
How about overdosing or getting addicted to
Ayahuasca?
When taken with an experienced curandero (shaman) the medicine is absolutely safe. If taken without a trained guide it may have much less effect. It is particularly hard to overdose due to its taste (it is simply hard to swallow much of it anyway) and due to the fact the every single batch of brew has its own doze, there is no fixed "safe" doze. Prolonged use of the brew does not result in addiction of any sort.

What is Ayahuasca made of?
The Ayahuasca brew is the most important jungle medicine of the upper Amazon. It is made from the ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis Caapi) and the leaf of the Chacruna plant (Psychotria Viridis). The two make a potent plant medicine, which takes one into the subtle world of higher dimensions. The vine is an inhibitor, which contains harmala and harmaline among other alkaloids, and the leaf contains vision-inducing alkaloids. More about its legal status.
